Join Arkansas SPJ for a free, hands-on courts reporting workshop & mock trial on Thursday, October 8, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Arkansas Civics Education Center in Little Rock.
The evening begins with a crash course on preparing to cover and reporting on a trial led by Dale Ellis of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and Mark Friedman of Arkansas Business.
Then, students will take part in a live mock trial presided over by Judge Chris Givens, chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Arkansas. The mock trial will also feature journalist-turned-attorney and former Arkansas SPJ board member Ronak Patel as well as attorney(s) from the Pulaski County Public Defender’s Office.
This is an opportunity to learn directly from experienced journalists and legal professionals, practice covering court proceedings, and better understand the preparation, ethics, and what it takes to cover trials.
